Landed: Jan 16, 2012.
First three weeks: Slow start, nothing exciting.
Fought off the jet lag, got used to American daily life, commuting, some of the quirky differences with Europe. There was tons of admin to prepare for work, both internally and externally (social security and such much).
Got to visit Rockville and to get a pretty good feeling of Gaithersburg so far, but I am yet to be to DC. One can see how "touristy" I feel, even on a new continent.
It's amazing how little one can do without a phone number here (and I need my Visa PIN number to purchase a phone contract, so I get stalled and stalled...). Even the supermarkets are crazy about giving me bonus cards if only I share my phone number with them, *sigh*. Once used to daily life, it's just as boring as usual, but a slight bit more annoying as the distances here are larger, so everything takes more time.
Note for the desperate: ThinkGeek will accept foreign phone numbers, so you can purchase items from there.
And the most important reason to get a smartphone soon - I can really use the camera, since I need to make my stay here more graphic. It's pretty dull to have a travel blog filled with text after all, isn't it?
Now, off to greener pastures...
